Tummy Mommy and Heart Mommy
by Patricia Joan Polhans

I have a tummy mommy
That gave me birth and life.
But knew not how to care for me
Though I don't mean to criticize.

She couldn't provide the comforts
That a little girl would need;
Pretty clothes, nice new dolls,
Not even nutritious food for me.

Oft' times I was hungry.
Sometimes I'd even cry.
I needed a 'heart' mommy.
So much that I could die.

I dreamed of my 'heart' mommy
Who'd cuddle me on her lap,
Someone who'd really love me
And hold me when I'd nap.

Tummy mommy had tried
But she could never fill
The shoes of my heart mommy
And I know she never will.

Now, I have a heart mommy
Given after I 'as taken away
From my tummy mommy,
Unfit is what they say.

God knew just what I needed
Even though I never asked.
He gave me my heart mommy,
A mommy to love at last!

Let me now distinguish
Between my two mommies.
One came to give me birth
After I lived in her tummy.

However, now I'll tell you
About my new heart mommy
I call her that because
She's become my love bunny.

Now I guess that you can see
How they both got their names
Mother's, tummy and heart
I'm a part of each today.

Written on behalf of my 11 year old step-daughter.
