Listen and Smile
by John T Wren © 2002

Trust in God to get you there
But you must do the walking
By our actions we are judged
It's not finished just by talking

If life was all only fun and games
Then we would already be in Heaven
But we are not there quite yet my friends
So we need to help our fellow brethren

Each of us have different needs
And many of them are exactly the same
But when we help each other out
It is then that we live up to the Christian name

That word itself contains Christ in it
As both do you and I
He entered us at our Baptism
And will be with us when we die

When we find it hard to conceive that fact
Then we are asked to have Faith and just Believe
And all of our burdens, and fears will then be lifted
From our minds God himself will then relieve

To so many this has already happened to
It's a story that at times can be so very hard to tell
For fear no one will believe what they say
And their just too polite to stand up and yell

Well excuse me for my rudeness
Or improper etiquette if you must
But if I do not tell someone pretty soon
My fear is that I myself am going to bust

God speaks to me on a daily basis
And in return I speak back to him
Just like a normal conversation
Between two loyal and trusting friends

But when I am finished talking
Then I will listen hard and long
For with all the worldly distractions
It's so much easier for me to be wrong

I listen to him in private
But his message always starts out the same
Then a smile will start across my face
As I hear Him say "I am so very glad that you came"

So
Listen
And
Smile
