Tears by Kathleen Higham Life passes oh so slowly When youth is on your side A body grows stronger daily For the aged, a downward slide. An intellect once so intent Now chooses what to retain A mind filled with memories Sometimes will harbor pain. Each day begins in hope A prayer to God comes first Tears leak out profusely Life has certainly reversed. Thoughts of loved ones come So many have passed away Recalling voices and their laughter Seems like it was only yesterday. Would we reach back in time? To change a painful past No, tears are surely plentiful Funny how tears seems to last. Never lessening with age Tears remain constant for sure It is part of the process A cleansing tool to help endure. Haing kissed a baby's tear Then the tear of a Mother Pressed my face to my love Tears gravitate toward each other. The process is ever constant This act increases with age I have written poem after poem On a tear stained page. A friend asked me a question Have I seen Jesus here? I see Him, oh I see Him In every single tear. Growing old surely challenges But my life I can accept Because the One who saved me It was Jesus, then He wept. "O could I tell, ye surely would believe it! O could I only say what I have seen! How should I tell or how can ye recieve it, How, till He bringeth you where I have been?" Excerpt from "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers. |
