Pride vs Humility
by Karen Eric Ponraj © 2009

Pride does puff up to the sky;
Gloating fiercely, yet not so shy
As a pompous peacock acting ostentatious;
What a gaudy braggart, "Oh good gracious!"
Pickled with conceit for seeking attention;
Vaunting boldly towards keen ascension
Her position always distinguished, to gain respect;
Her nose is raised high to expose herself as pristine perfect!
Eyes busy picking the scene, to pour contempt;
To cause a strive is her joyful intent
Parading her ego, to the highest bidder;
Pressing for compliments to reign as leader
Me, My, I are Pride's foremost love;

But God deems those who want to be great;
Must look at Christ, our Lord, instead ...

He emptied himself of His heavenly glory;
With humility, he walked as a lamb, meek and lowly
He's outward appearance had no lofty majesty;
Despised, rejected and hated of men, was his crowning beauty
What rights did He claim?
To defend His magnificent name?
As king, he valiantly fought no man;
For that was not in God's divine plan
Was there a raging climb to deceitful fame?
Or did the Son of God, had nothing from this world to gain?
His praise came from the Father's loving hand;
Did He not suffer and die for the sins of all man?
To loose our life, is the way to the cross;
No victory in our walk until pride is forever lost!
