Sewing in Tears
by Patricia Joan Polhans

I have sewn with tears
Into loved ones lives.
Pain has been my lot
A majority of the time.

Suffered cruelty from some
Who spoke crushing words
And upon my wounded heart
The interpretation blurred.

Garbled by emotions
Felt the sting of tears
Upon my heart grew blisters
For many, many years!

As my endurance dwindled
My voice could only say
That the sewing of the tears
Must have been for me today.

My love becomes challenged
From day to trying day
With the many firey darts
That seem to come my way.

Within the firey furnace
I've tried to find my rest
Come out as pure gold
As I pass the cruel test.

As I look to my Savior
For my strength to guide
Poured out my bleeding heart
As to him, I did confide.

All my secret fears and
All of my frustrations
Burned in the furnace
With my tribulations.

He alone saw through
All the garbled noise.
Despite weakness and tears
I shall reap songs of joy!

All anger and frustration
The bitter tears and ploys
Have all worked together
To bring abundant joys.

All the biting anguish
Of those who sought my life
Have now been demolished
'long with discouragement and strife.

Many sought to destroy me
And to bring me down
But now I stand before you
In my righteous white gown.

Soon and very soon, I know,
There'll be an end to it all
Tears that were sewn in weakness
Shall, never again, fall.

Psalms 126:5-6
Those who sew in tears shall reap with songs of joy.
He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.
