Your Birthday Gift! by Patricia Joan Polhans I searched through stores Both great and small To find the perfect gift That would say it all. I walked down every isle, Searched thru' every nook Looked through the pages Of each and ev'ry book. I tried to find a gift, That one special present That would say how I feel, Words that were so reverent. I searched for a special card That would communicate it all The most eloquent words spoken To you, my father in law. After my long, gallant search Into many department stores, The right gift just wasn't there That was for very sure. I overturned rocks in the forest Walked through the lonesome woods Seeking for some unknown answer For I thought maybe nature could. Soon after I had exhausted Each and every effort I wearily sat down Disappointed and dejected. Nothing shouted inspiration As that one significant gift For which I had been longing It seemed only to be a myth. As I pondered, my thoughts, I, then, looked on the inside, Discovering that the answer Lied within my foolish pride. I found that the answer lied Deep within my own heart It was the gift of love That I longed to impart. Now that I've found the answer I must give it now to you For your birthday gift I give God's love to you! |
