The Stray
by Ronald Bingham

I am that lost sheep that went astray,
Alone and afraid, so helpless against so many, an easy prey.
I cry out in fear for my shepherd, but maybe I've strayed too far away,
My voice echo's the fear as the wild beasts of the forest encircle me this very day.

Oh why did I leave, oh why did I roam?
As I cower down defenseless wishing I had never left home.
I can hear their every movement and they know that I lay near,
Oh how I miss my Master and wish that He were here.

Greener pastures indeed I found not a one,
Just wanted my freedom thought it would be fun.
Instead I found a world so cruel and unkind,
Again I call to my Master in hopes of me He would find.

Then I feel something grab me and I rise from where I lay,
It is my Master and He caresses me and asks me if I am okay.
I cannot speak for shame fills my heart,
He said lets go home, you know you gave me quite a start.

Safely back home my Master watches close over me,
He said I heard you calling, but I guess you did not see.
I was always with you, but I had to let you choose,
My love is unconditional and forever, but you have the right to accept it or refuse.
