In the Driver's Seat
by Deborah Smith Plemmons

I was traveling down Broad Way,
Heading anywhere--no where fast.
I didn't care about things in life,
I was just enjoying having a blast.

I did a lot of running around,
Going places I shouldn't have been.
Everybody I knew was "doing it";
So, I never thought of 'it' as sin.

I was driving slowly one day,
When I met a Stranger on a side road.
He wanted to be the driver,
But I was carrying too heavy a load.

As I continued down Broad Way,
Again, I saw the Stranger on the side road.
He told me what He had done for me;
I humbly gave Him my heavy load.

I accepted the gift from my Savior,
And He directed me another way.
Now I'm driving up the Straight and Narrow,
With Him by my side each day.

As I've been driving on this new road,
I've discovered holes, bumps, and detours.
I realized I needed a new driver,
So, I said to my Friend, "It's Yours".

He's behind the wheel, driving so carefully;
I'm learning new things everyday.
From Broad Way to the Straight and Narrow,
What a blessing to be on the Heaven-bound Way!
