Surprised?
by Deborah Smith Plemmons

Ghosts, goblins, superheros, princes, and more;
These costumes are bought at the neighborhood store.

Some will dress up like hobos and wenches,
Vampires, hunchbacks, warlocks, and witches.

Many decorate their lawns for this celebration
With Jack-O-Lanterns, lights, and an imagination.

There are those who party way into the night;
Others trick or treat--giving each other a fright.

"What are we celebrating?" Many might say.
Don't you know? It's All Hallows' Eve Day.

All Hallows' Eve comes the night before All Saints' Day.
Because it's a fun time, many go the world's way.

There are those who meet secretly to celebrate
With evil things Christians should abhor and hate.

Now, you wouldn't think "All Hallows' Eve" so keen.
Surprise! Today, it is known as "Halloween".

Oh, Christian, should we celebrate such a day?
It is not pleasing to God in any way.
