Jesus, My Friend
by Deborah Smith Plemmons

I have a friend Who is dear to me;
He will never leave me alone.
I can go to Him each day prayerfully,
For I know He sits at God's throne.

He tells me He will never forsake me,
Even though one day He left the earth.
For He sent the Comforter, One of the Three,
To dwell in each Christian at new birth.

He'll be a true friend to me at all times;
Even in the good times and the bad.
For earthly friends will leave me betimes,
But Jesus is there through times glad and sad.

He's a friend that even sticks to me closer
Than a relative, of whom I hold dear.
He's closer than Christian sisters and brothers.
Oh! how I am glad He is so near.

He said He would call me His friend,
If I do what He commands me to do.
He came to heal and the broken hearts mend;
He willingly laid down His life for me and you.

A friend loves at all times, I do know.
Am I there for those in need each day?
If I want friends, my friendliness I must show,
Just like Jesus did during His earthly stay.
