Vows and Resolutions
by Deborah Smith Plemmons

It is that time again for yearly resolutions.
Do you have a list of unending determinations?
For the smoker, you're quitting again;
You're concerned about your health and the kin.
For the overeater, you'll lose excess weight;
You're going to eat less and quicken your gait.
For the drinker, you're getting rid of the gin;
And hope you don't go on a binge again.
For the spender, you'll look for the sales;
You'll only use the credit card when all else fails.
For the workaholic, no more late nights at the office;
You'll take time for family and not think about business.
These resolutions always seem to be broken;
A lot of times, the day they are spoken.

Vowing to God, though, is a serious thing;
Are you ready to give Him your everything?
Are you committed daily to reading His Word?
Will you share the Gospel to those who've never heard?
Are you planning to go to church to worship,
Where you can have good Christian fellowship?
Are you taking time each day to pray?
Are you ready to serve God His way?
Making resolutions to yourself or others is fine.
You may break them today or some other time;
But when you vow to God, things you'll do,
Remember, He will require them of you.
