That Horrible Pit by Albert Watson Stuck in a pit of slime and sin, Pain without and pain within. I saw above a sky of blue, One called, "Here, there's life for you." But I, gulped down my wine and gin, Twice-daily dose of heroin Would drink some more and pop a pill, Then slop around in life's pigswill. Lost my job, kids and the wife Then a thought, perhaps next my life. With mounting needs I turned to crime, Sunk deeper in that pit of slime. Feeling ill with veins so scarred, Trapped, life became one long charade. I glanced that blue, once more the voice, "Your last chance friend to make a choice". A hand stretched down into my pit, Desperately I grabbed hold of it. "Stand on this rock" the voice did say, "I am the life the truth the way." No longer hooked, no chemical high. I soar with eagles in the sky. |
