At Your Mercy
by Rebecca Thames © 2001

It can be a scary thing
standing on my own
Powerless and unequipped
to face this world alone

Struggles all around me
I see pain and death and fear
Mournful cries heard `round the Earth
as the end draws near

As I sit and work and wait
for things to start to change
Futility brings me to my knees
and I call out Your Name

No hope is gained from efforts spent
to try to make it right
I find my strength grows weak as
darkness grows from coming night

When nothing's left to hold onto
no solid place to stand
Sturdy mountains crumble and
are swept away like sand

No where to rest in confidence
in life no guarantee
So with my last ounce of strength
I fall down at Your mercy

As I lay down at your feet
prostrate before your Throne
You search the deep things of my heart
and ways that are my own

Nothing left within myself
I tried all that I knew
No strength remains to try again.
My only hope is You

I have no special pleas to give
no fancy words to say
My soul waits, still, in silent hope
You'll live through me today
