I'm Going Home by Donna Hendrix The woman lay in the hospital bed weak and frail Knowing that she was nearing the end of life's trail Disoriented, not speaking she did lay for ten days Her husband of sixty years could not bear to see her this way Three loving sons stood idly by her side Tears of sweet remembrance they did cry They remembered the days of their sweet childhood Her wonderful embrace and the aroma of her home cooked food They remembered how she always loved them even when they were bad And how there were times they did things that left her sad They remembered the days when she looked so proud As she picked them out of the graduation crowd Her radiant look of joy when her sons were wed Finally, I have daughters she happily said When she held her grandchildren it was a look of pure bliss And her eyes sparkled when she planted a kiss What they would give to talk to her one more time To hear voice her sing song with poetry and rhyme Her life was slowly slipping away They knew she would not be with them by the next day It was just a tiny little angel that played the tune Amazing Grace That her middle son next to her ear did place And as that precious song of old played her idle mind began to roam She began to hum and repeatedly sang I'm going home, I'm going home Her family told her to go in the direction in which she was drawn They would be fine, and God would never leave them alone Within a few hours she left this earthly place Bound for heaven and God's amazing grace! |
