Nathanael
by Albert Watson

My names Nathanael, how do you do,
I'm from Cana, you'll guess I'm a Jew.
I just sat here beneath this fig tree,
When my dear friend Philip came up to me.

"You know the Messiah who we're looking for,
The prophesied one in our Jewish law.
Its Joseph's son Jesus they're from Nazareth,"
"That place!" I shouted with my very next breath.

"Can anything good come from that town?" I said
"Come see for yourself," I followed he led.
We found him, he stated, "A true Israelite,
No falseness here, only does what is right."

Amazed I questioned, "Sir, how do you know that?"
"I saw under the fig tree, the place where you sat."
Proclaiming him "Rabbi, King of Israel, Son of God".
Since then I have followed, in His steps I have trod.
