Why Please Tell Me Why
by Rebecca Hodges Scott © 2001

You always loved your spouse more than anything
But you would never let them know you were praying
You see your loved one stand accused on judgment day
They turn, look at you and point their finger your way
Pain in their eyes they say “why, please tell me why”

You loved your children giving them hugs and kisses too
You didn’t take them to church, too many other things to do
Your children grown, they too stand accused on judgment day
They turn, look at you and point their finger your way
As they are crying they say “why, please tell me why”

You and your neighbor would never do anything unheard of
But they never heard you say anything about God’s love
You see your neighbor standing accused on judgment day
They turn, look at you and point their finger your way
With tears in their eyes they say, “why, please tell me why”

You and your friends would go to places when work was done
You wouldn’t invite them to church; afraid they’d make fun
Your friends stand there with the accused on judgment day
They turn, look at you and point their finger your way
Then you hear them say “why, please tell me why”

You never told me of God’s love
You never spoke of heaven above
Tell me why oh tell me why
Tell me why you let me die
Please tell me why
