Self
by mike bullock

You cannot be His if you walk by yourself
Refusing all offers of aid
You cannot be changed if the locks of your door
Enforce the stand you have made
Until you decide that your life is a mess
And cry out, frustrated in pain
You stay in your bubble, aloof from The Lord
The seeds of your walk have been lain.

But what if we take our eyes off ourselves
And think of another instead
Put self on the altar and give it away
To selfishness be dead
Then life in us would bloom anew
Our gifts would be portrayed
The heart of Jesus shining out
All fears and doubts allayed.
