Lesson in Humility by Fern I must not seek to judge the time or place In which the Father draws me to His side And very gently guides me with His eyes To see through Heavenly lenses by His grace. I should not question form in which He comes; Whether He chooses with a child’s pure sight To tug me by the hand, or set alight My senses with the radiance of a flower Or guide my wandering feet past one whose soul Cries softly out in hunger, need or pain; A spider’s web bejewelled with drops of rain Or patience of a snail toward its goal, Even the maggot, who digests decay To clean our bones and turn us back to dust From whence we came; or humble worm who must Enrich and energise this womb of earth Which, in its turn, provides for us to eat A wealth of plants, and creatures that they feed, Each one dependent on each other’s need To ensure continuation of its kind. Each of His creatures thus becomes The lesson and reflection of His light. All have a natural function and a place, Much like our own, on the Eternal Wheel. He does not need to shout with earthly voice; For everywhere throughout the world He blessed, His message and examples manifest For us, inheritors, to imitate. |
