The Midnight Hour
by Deborah Russell © 2006

Noah finished the ark.
He was preparing to embark.
The animals unaware of the deluge
to come sensing their need for refuge,
saw the clouds gathering in the sky
as the forces of nature began to testify.

Such laughter to see Noah and his crew,
completing the ark with just a simple few.
The animals came in two by two, at their pace
waiting to be shown to their designated space.
What an eyesight it must have been there,
the timid Deer alongside the frightful Bears.
The mischievous Gorillas and Chimpanzees,
walking in step, with the Lions and the monkeys.

The people making fun came up with this reply,
"This warning couldn't be true, why do you lie
telling us about such as thing, as rain."
There never had been such a thing, it was inane!

Their taunts filled the air till lightning lit up the sky,
while the thunder gave way to an explosive battle cry.
A flood set the ark afloat for forty days and nights.
The fountains of the deep were broken up, what a sight.

Screams were heard throughout the earth in the midnight hour,
"Let us in", they cried, the ark's door was shut by God's Mighty power.
The Bible says that as in the days of Noah so shall it be at the end of time.
They were eating, drinking, marrying, and the rain came, ofttimes,
God gave warning but their eyes did not see nor their ears hear.
What will you do with his coming drawing near?
