The New Jerusalem by Gertrude Jefferies It comes slowly down, descending from God, This beautiful, holy new city. Flashing and sparkling like a precious gem, Unequalled in splendour and beauty. It measures a square; high, wide, as is long; Transparent gold, like as glass. There are twelve gates, and each gate is a pearl, Through which no evil will pass. It high massive wall of Jasper is made, Twelve foundations with precious stones laid. No need of the moon or sun to give sight, For God Himself, and the Lamb are it's light. No sin or corruption in that blessed place, And we will always behold the face Of Him, who in splendour, sits on the throne, In that New Jerusalem, my heavenly home. |
