Lily
by Kathleen Higham

I saw an angel today
On her tummy she lies
So delicate, yet perfect
Touched her with my eyes

I am mesmerized by Lily
And this battle she has bore
When her tiny hand unfolds
God closes it once more

I saw an angel today
In her my God speaks
If only I could hold her
Kiss those precious cheeks

As I pray for mercy
Already His miracle here
A little heart beats furiously
Each breath brings another tear

I saw an angel today
And when the alarms sound
Doctors and nurses come together
They work on hallowed ground

I have felt His presence
Even technology cannot claim
The quiet peace that comes to me
As I say His Holy name

I saw two angels today
The one who loves her so
My daughter tenderly cares for her
The nurse who won't let go
