The Christmas Gift
by Patricia Joan Polhans

The manger where the Savior lay
Was still and quiet this Christmas day.
No Rustling of reindeer upon the roof
Or sounds heard of tiny little hoofs.
Only voices of a cold and dusty wind
And an empty stable where horses had been.
No Christmas Gift in Santa's sleigh
To be delivered this holiday.
No trees adorned with lights and holly
Or a Santa Clause so fat and jolly.
Just one small gift was upon the hay.
The Christ child born on Christmas day!
