Christ's Gift! by Patricia Joan Polhans What would Jesus desire For his own birthday? A hot cup of chocolate on a cold, dreary day? How 'bout a tailor made suit, Fine, quality new threads Or a nice brand new car So the gospel could be spread? Would he like a new home, A place to rest his head Or many, many books To boast that he had read? Would he want a woman He could label as his wife, Cash to spend on pleasures, To take away his strife? Would he want new toys To play with on the streets? Things that he'd enjoy To make his life complete? How 'bout a boat that he Could sail the seven seas Trav'ling near and far, Checking out the scenery? How 'bout a new computer. Gift from the modern age? So he could jot down His schedule on a page? Maybe he'd like to perform Upon an actors' stage, Becoming very famous Earning his own wage? How about some cash, Money that he could choose To play with in casinos Just so he could lose? What would Jesus want For his own birthday? You are not even close To what he'd want today! I think he'd not desire Riches or worldwide fame, Pleasures for the flesh Money to squander away. He'd not desire fine clothes Just to strut around Nor would he boast of things To make his flesh feel proud. He certainly would not need Money to ease his pain. Nor would he spend his cash On pleasure he might gain. No...Jesus would not want Any of the fleshly things. For his desires are heavenly As the Lord and the King! The things that he'd desire He'd give openly to all. And, that's, eternal life Offered freely to those who call. I think that he's more willing To give than to receive The gift that he'd desire Is for ALL children to believe. He is not willing that Anyone should perish But he desires to give The gift of life to cherish. So giving Christ a gift Would be a monumental task! For all do not repent! Some do not even ask! God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. He gives the gift of life freely to all who ASK. |
