Last Words
by Donna Kempton

I may not be rich in the eyes of the world,
but I have treasure unseen.
Life everlasting, a heart free for fear,
and love for eternity.

I gaze at the cross and I think of the cost
of the gift Jesus gave to me.
I picture the crowd that cried out for his blood,
and laughed at his agony.

"Father, forgive them", he cried out that day, "for they know not what they do",
and one said he almost could swear that
he heard "and take me home with you."

From the weakest of voices, almost unheard,
two words that still echo today,
"I thirst" and they taunted him, giving him none, and laughed as do children at play.

With what breath he had left,
He struggled to speak,
Those who loved him started to cry,
"Into Thy hands I commend my soul"
as my saviour prepared to die.

Three last, precious words
"It is finished" he said,
He gave all for me and for you,
and that's why I say I have treasure unseen,
as all true believers do.

The price that he paid for our sins
on that tree was all that a man could give
And he "gave up the ghost" on Calvary's tree
so that all of God's children could live,

Eternal life, bought with the blood,
Eternal life for us all.
Thank you dear Saviour, for dying for me,
and answering Calvary's call.
