A Poet by Kathleen Higham Love someone you cannot have, did not choose Lose someone you simply cannot bear to lose Fear God, the one you cannot see Then a poet you will surely be. Accept those impossible moments of joy Desiring complete ecstasy, don't be coy Open up your heart to that ache Whatever scares you touch, then take. Lay down all your thoughts of useless pride Recall the secret moment when you cried Surrender absolutely to your fear Embrace the words you do not wish to hear. Share wantonly the thoughts you long to write Even when your heart puts up a fight Go deep, expose that one desire Understanding love consummates the fire. Reveal a dream impossible to conceive Fantasize each feeling, then believe Love, love, love, and love some more Then from your very soul words will pour. Dance the dance of love, or not at all No longer young, still hear wisdom call Let the mirror be an honest friend Dance the dance until the very end. Love someone you cannot have, did not choose Lose someone you simply cannot bear to lose Fear God, the one you cannot see Then a poet you will surely be. |
