TAKE A BOAT ACROSS A LAKE
by Stan Arney © 2009

Jesus' disciples were given a great gift
Of which the morale of the people to lift
To cast out demons, heal the sick, His message to spread
To help feed five thousand, with both fish and bread
Full of themselves, they overstepped their boundary
Soon they would learn the hard lesson of humility
For who were they, to tell Him what He should do
It did not bring His wrath, even cause Him to argue
He simply gave them a task, to take a boat across a lake
They had no clue how much effort this would take
After all, they were now His equal or so they thought
How wrong they were, they were about to be taught
While He spent time in prayer, they struggled to row
Do you doubt that He knew and that He made it so
When the time was right, He strolled past their boat
Do you think He wondered if He would stay afloat
Peter was brave, but in the end doubt got him too
Jesus gave him a gift, then had to come to his rescue
Once He was in the boat, they begged for His forgiveness
Truly He is the Son of God, they openly confess
Jesus taught them they could do nothing of their own accord
That God, His Father, be given His glory and not be ignored
He taught them nothing is impossible, with God by your side
And that He would always be their teacher, servant, and guide
Trust in God, with all your heart, mind, body, and soul
Faith is always knowing, that God is in control
When we take credit for glory due God, we struggle to row
Do not doubt that He knows or that He makes it so.
