If Only I Could
by Kathleen Higham

If I could paint the picture
That is what I would do
A bridge of stone reflecting life
When I run across to You.

Here I stare remembering
As the leaves are rustling by
Autumn colors greet my eyes
Fading flowers bring a sigh.

Having seen this bridge before
Her challenge set my pace
So very young, toed the line
Then over it I would race.

Memories come fill my mind
No matter where I stand
Heartache pounded after me
Nothing went as planned.

The bridge is old but sturdy
She has carried many a soul
To a place so beautiful
Accomplishing their goal.

I stood with champions waiting
From around the world they came
Hearts pounding wildly, ready
To run and claim their fame.

Now I am growing weary
But on that bridge I see
The finish line not far away
Where my loved ones wait for me.

If I could paint the picture
Oh my Lord I surely would
I'd run across the bridge to You
If only, if only I could.
