This humorous story is a quirky view of the miracle of the stater, the coin which Jesus caused to appear in the mouth of a fish, to pay the Temple tax for himself and Peter. I have often thought how neglected this miracle has been, and also how odd it was, compared to the many other miracles which usually involved healing. It is the only case in which Jesus actually gave money to someone too.(Jesus said:) "Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first comes up; and when you have opened his mouth, you shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give to them for me and thee." Matthew 17:27
