Unexpected Turns: My Secret Formula

After months of experiments I have finally discovered the right combination. It took three thousand four hundred and twelve tries, but I got there. Now I have the mixture, I can do something which most people still dream about.

Watch out world, here I come!

It began a few years ago, six to be exact, when I was allowed to go with my Dad into the top secret (well, pretty close to top anyway) laboratories. He works there every day. That's his job. They let me go with him because I'm always stuck in a wheelchair, and I can't walk. It's a standing joke. Not much danger of me running off with secrets when I'm parked across the room, with my head leaning sideways, and all I can see is the backs of the technicians.

But I was listening.

Dad always kept an eye on me, even when he was working. He'd come over regularly to me and smile, and say something like "Are you comfortable?" or "Can I get you anything?" and I'd jiggle my head to show him I was fine, or I'd make sounds, to let him know I wanted something. Only he knew what the sounds meant because he was my Dad.

One of these days, I realized I could get to see the screens if I was parked nearer to the windows. The reflections were back to front but I was soon able to work out what all the words meant. I became quite an expert at reading back to front writing! After a few weeks of this, I was able to theorize several of my own formulae, but of course I never said anything, or showed I was even very interested.

A nice bit of progress came when Dad set me up with a computer of my own. I was able to operate it with a switch attached to my head. By moving my head like a joystick I was able to type words and go on the Internet, and even access a few simple games. As soon as possible, I devised a simple game which played itself automatically whenever I wanted it, so everyone thought I was busy with the game, but this left me free to do some serious hacking!

Having got myself into the main programs, I started reading the top secret stuff, and no-one in the room suspected it was me! It was such a lark! After a few days I was able to construct my own chemicals, and try them out on a computer generated model. Whenever Dad, or any of the other lab technicians came near I would flick my head to the left and automatically switch to the game I had constructed. As soon as they were gone, I would go back to my experiments. It was a risky business but great fun, outwitting all those brainiacs.
