Wording of this Handout:

The Bible says that rabbits and hares chew the cud.
What "chewing the cud" means is eating the same food twice. Cows do this when they chew a lot of grass, swallow it, and then bring it up to chew it again.
Cud-chewing is a good way to eat grass, because it means the food has a chance to sit in the stomach and be worked on by special bacteria which turn the grass into sugars.
But there have been people who have said the Bible is wrong about rabbits and hares. "They don't chew their cud!" say these people.
But as always, the Bible is right. (Leviticus 11 :3-6.) Rabbits and hares do in fact eat their own droppings. Despite what some people say, the Bible is always correct in everything it says, even when it comes to the eating habits of bunnies.
