Wording of this Handout:
There is a fish called a damsen which performs an incredibly clever trick. It learns how to live in a forest of poison!
This is how it happens.
The damsen fish would die if it swam into the tentacles of a poisonous sea anemone, but it knows how to do this without being killed.
First it brushes carefully against the poisonous 'fingers'. Then it waits a while. After some time it goes back and brushes against the poison again. It does this many times, until its body is used to the poison.
Further and further it goes, deep into the poisonous 'fingers' , and then finally it is able to hide right down inside them.
The sea anemone even gets to know its own fish, because if some other damsen fish comes along it is stung badly!
The fish needs the anemone for protection, and the anemone needs the fish for at least two reasons:
1. The fish keeps the anemone clean
2. The fish attracts other fish to the anemone, which it sometimes catches and eats.
God has designed many things in this world to work together. The fish and the poisonous anemone is just one of the great partnerships.
