Wording of this Handout:

There is a river in South America called the Amazon. It is one huge river! And like most rivers, there are times when it has too much water in it.

When the Amazon rises, many animals and plants have a hard time staying alive, but one of these animals has found a way to stay high and dry.

Ants.

Before the floods come, this special kind of ant goes hunting around for the seeds of the *pineapple plant. When they find a seed, they carry it up, high into the trees and fit it into a crack or crevice

The ants also carry mud up the tree and pack it round the seed to give it a good start.

The seed soon sprouts and grows a lot of roots and stems and leaves, which makes a very good home for the ants to live in.

The pineapple plant is helped because it is lifted up where the sun is, instead of having to struggle on the forest floor in the dark, and it is safe from floods ?and the ants are helped because now they have a home, and they too are safe from the floods. They also get to eat pineapple!

How do the ants know which seed to collect? How do they know to put mud round the seed? How do they know about floods which they have never seen yet?

God designed the ants and the pineapple plant to work together and help each other survive. Animals show wisdom because God made them, and He put the wisdom into them.
