Wording of this Handout:
This true story comes from Cornwall in England.
One day a little boy called Philip Stevens was playing in the fields with his friend James. Philip's mother was nearby, but she had no fears for her little toddler because it was a peaceful, happy day.
But suddenly a herd of cows started to move across the paddock behind Philip. He was now standing by himself in the gap in a hedge. If he didn't move from that place quickly, the cows would run through the gap and trample on him.
Philip's mother saw what was about to happen, but she was too far away to run to her son and move him to safety.
But Rusty was there. She was a Collie bitch, and she understood that Philip was in deadly danger. She ran like a rocket across the field, barking furiously, then she dashed straight at the cows and turned them aside just in time. One of the cows kicked her, but she kept barking until Philip was safe.
For her intelligence and bravery Rusty was given a medal and other honours.
In the Bible there was a man called Noah who warned the world about a great danger which was about to come. Just like Rusty, he called out and tried to save people from the great flood, which covered the whole Earth. God does not want anyone to perish. He wants everyone to be saved.
