Adam was standing nearby, but he didn't say anything to Eve. So she went ahead and ate some of the fruit.

Ooops!!!

As soon as she ate the fruit she knew she had disobeyed God. and Adam felt terrible too because he was there and he hand't told her to stop! He was responsible because he was meant to look after Eve.

Along came God. He knew what had happened, because God knows everything. The devil was watching, feeling quite smug, because his plan to make God kill Adam and Eve was working... But Adam and Eve did't die. God had brought something soft. and woolly, and red with blood!

What was it?

"I just killed this lamb" said God, "I killed it for you. I killed it instead of you. If you think of it as you dying, then I'll forgive you for disobeying me." Adam and Eve were frightened. They didn't want to die! "Yes!" They said. "We accept the lamb's death in our place!" So God covered Adam and Eve with the skin of a lamb, and sent them both out of the beautiful garden they had been living in.

Adam and Eve didn't die straight away, but from then on they knew things were diferent. They found they were not as smart. and they forgot, and they started to feel tired. and they got sores and BO and dandruff and smelly feet, and their bodies started to grow old, and wrinkled ... and things hurt.

The world was different too. instead of all the animals eating grass and leaves and fruit, they started chasing each other. and sometimes they even ate each other! Plants had spikes and points, and insects had stings. Germs caused sores and viruses made things sick.

And then, finally, after many years, Adam and Eve died.

But one day God will bring them back to life, and they will live with Him forever, because they trusted in the lamb.
