How Saul Met Jesus

Saul was a pharisee. This meant that he was very keen on keeping the law which God gave to Israel.
When the first Christians started to appear in Jerusalem. Saul was one of the people who tried to stop Christianity from spreading, because he though Christians were bad.
Saul would break into the Christians' homes, and send some of these Christians to prison. He tried to make the Christians miserable, by spoiling their lives, but, they just prayed for him and forgave him for the nasty things he did.
The more Saul tried to stop Christianity, the more it spread! One day, Saul heard that there were some Christians living in a town called Damascus ( about 200 miles from Jerusalem ), so away he went, angry and determined to get rid of them. But on the way, suddenly, a bright light shone down from the sky, and Saul was so frightened he fell of his horse!
A voice spoke to him: "Saul! Saul! Why are you chasing me about and trying to hurt me?"
"Who...Who are you?" said Saul. "I am Jesus!" said the voice.
Saul was really surprised. He thought Jesus had died on a cross, and been buried. How could Jesus be speaking to him if he was dead???
Well obviously, Jesus WASN'T DEAD! He did die on the cross, and he did lie in a tomb for three days, but then he came back to life!
Saul suddenly realized that Christians were actually following a living leader...
"what do you want me to do, Lord?" Saul asked.
"I want you to go to Jerusalem and wait until I tell you what to do" said Jesus.
Saul tried to get back on his horse but he couldn't see it.
"I'm blind!" He cried.
The people who were with him helped him back on his horse, then they led him to Jerusalem, and there he waited.
He was so upset that he didn't eat or drink for three days, until Jesus sent a Christian to talk to him.
After Saul had been taught the truth about Jesus, he became one of the greatest champions for Christianity.
You see, it makes a huge difference when you know that Jesus is alive!
