Wording of this Handout:

Nelly Gnat and Nigel Gnat were keen on wearing knickerbockers. All the gnats and other things that buzz and fly were quite amused.
Nelly's knickerbockers had a zippy strip and dotty doodle, Nigel's had a ziggy zaggy bit of noodle knitting too.
Nelly said to Nigel: "Dunce! My knickerbockers are the neatest!" I Nigel gnawed his gnatty lip and put his gnatty hands upon his hips ;
"Not so!" said he, and pulled a bit of Nelly's knickerbockers off with nasty nippers.
Nelly grabbed a larger pair of knickerbocker knickers, then she ripped a really rotten bit of Nigel's knickerbockers.
"No trouble!" Nelly said, and new with rapid napping higher, "Just you wait!" he said with malice, "I'll be off to visit Alice! She can knit a neater sweeter combination sweater-knickerbocker than your nutty Nanny ever did!"
And so the competition quickly quickened, and the knickerbocker knitters added stitches, knotted noodles, ticked and tacked, and tied the threads, zigged and zagged and popped in patterns, till at last the gnats were ready to parade their latest gear.
A crowd was gathered from the meadow : busy beetles, bees a-buzzing, praying mantis, ladybird and hairy hopper, furry aphid, moppy mippets, and the rest.
Nelly Gnat appeared with steps so haughty, all the flies and things went "Boo!" But they gave a bigger boo when Nigel Gnat came strutting by.
Both the gnats were vain and silly, dressed in knickerbockers far too large. Just their heads and small antenna could be seen above the cloth!
"Why should gnats wear knickerbockers anyway?" said cockroach Carl.
"What a silly couple" said a spittle bug, and scuttled off to have a cry.
The Gnats in all their gaudy color blushed, and went a rosy red. "Time to
leave here" mumbled Nelly.
"I agree" sad Nigel said.
And so they fled.
