Wording of this Handout:

Rubbish anyone?

In the 1600s in London, people used to throw household garbage, as well as all the stuff from the toilet, into the streets at night. And every night the pigs in the city would come out and eat whatever they found. (Disgusting!)
But at the same time, over in China and Japan, the people there were using garbage collectors, public baths and paper money.

Moving right along. . .

New York city in the 1890s was, at that time, about the size of Melbourne Australia - and full of people. At that time they had horses to pull the carts, buses and so on. Now, as you know, horses eat a lot of grass, oats and so on, and then they also do a lot of manure.

Every day, all the horses dumped hundreds of tons of manure on the streets, and hundreds of gallons of the other stuff. . . and can you imagine the problem of getting rid of the horses when they died!!

So what do you do with your rubbish?

Have you heard the one about the hungry donkey in the restaurant?
He was very dish-appointed!

Have you heard the one about the prophet who was swallowed by a sea monster?
He was feeling down in the mouth!

Have you heard the one about the woman who swung on the telegraph lines?
Man! Was she ever a live wire!

Have you heard the one about the Christmas story in the bakers shop?
Three men from the yeast turned up on camels!
