Wording of this Handout:

You have a ball which bounces half its height each time it bounces, so, if you let it bounce on and on, it should keep going forever, right?

How I came to be stuck up a cherry tree orbiting earth.

We visited my grandma's place,
Last week, one sunny day, "
"Just make yourselves at home
We heard the lady say.

I wandered out the back to see,
What l could find to eat,
And down the back I found a branch
Above the garden seat.

I swung myself into the tree
And ate the cherries there,
Then further up I climbed until
l felt some chilly air.

A comet went by, very close,
And space junk fell like rain.
I thought "Perhaps I'm high enough?
"Should I go down again?"

But grandma chopped the tree just then,
And let it fly away;
So here I am, marooned in space,
Forever and a day.

Answer to science puzzle: OK whose ball have you got? And do you have permission to bounce it? And just in case you were wondering about the answer, its "no", because while the ball bounces half its height each time, it doesn't take half the time each bounce, so it runs out of time before it runs out of bounces.
