Story of the Golden Slippers

There is a story, which is told, about two children, a brother and sister, who went to buy something for their mother on the day before Christmas.

They were poor children, but they had a little money to spend, so they put their coins together until they thought they had enough.

They wanted to buy something for their mother because the doctor had said she might not live beyond Christmas Day.

The children went to a large store, selected their mother's present, then stood in the line, and waited.

The present they had chosen was a pair of gold-colored slippers - but when they reached the checkout, the woman said "I'm sorry kids, but that's not enough."

The children were heartbroken. They had no more money, and they so wanted their mother to be happy.

"Jesus won't see the slippers" the little girl cried.
"What do you mean?" Asked a woman in the queue.

"The Sunday school teacher said the streets in heaven are paved with gold" said the girl, "So we wanted Mum to have gold shoes to match.
She's going there soonl"

The women smiled.
"I'll pay the difference" she said.

Christmas Day celebrates the coming of Jesus.
Easter celebrates his dying for us, and his resurrection.

The streets in heaven are just a taste of the wonderful future God offers to all the world, but we can get there only through trusting in Jesus.
