Wording of this Handout:
Too much chocolate!
Imagine a kid saying "All I want to eat is chocolate! I love chocolate! I want to have it for breakfast, lunch and tea!"
Well there are times when I feel like that too, but I know what would happen if I got my wish: I would become heartily and completely SICK of chocolate! I would hate the sight of it. what I dreamed about eating would become detestable to me. Ugh! Take it away!
You could say the same thing about ice cream, or sweets, or KFC or "greasies." Or money, or collectables, or some sport or other, or some activity like tramping. Or watching TV, or going to parties, or listening to music.... whatever we want too much of tends to end up becoming unpleasant to us if we spend too much time with it.
It is like starting to eat a huge, delicious sandwich, and, after a while, finding yourself chewing on sand.
Nothing in this world, either good or bad, when taken in too large a dose, ever fully satisfies us. We may have a craving for something for a while, but in the end we get tired of it and move on to the next thing. God has designed us this way of course, so we will never be satisfied until we turn to Him.
Come on boy fetch the stick!
Don't throw it, please ....don't throw it....
The Bible says "(God) gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul." Psalm 106:15 (New King James Version)
