Wording of this Handout:
Life without God.
Some people are really honest with themselves. They start with what they think is the truth, and they follow it through to its bitter end, even though it hurts to get there.
For example, if you believe that there is no God, then what is the point of life. A man called Jean-Paul Sartre realized this when he said "Here we are, all of us, eating and drinking to preserve our precious existence, and... there is nothing, nothing, absolutely no reason for existing."
King Solomon came to the same conclusion. He decided to see if there was anything really lasting and worthwhile in the pleasures of the eye, the appetite, and the pocket. He tried food, entertainment, money - you name it he tried it. After trying everything the world had to offer he realized that death waited at the end for him, and all other people. How pointless it all seemed without God!
Its interesting how people will not think much about God as long as they have food, health and money, but give them an accident, or a terrible illness, or a sudden fright and they start calling out to "God" for help straight away.
I don't need God in my life!
Dear God, please help me! Oh God can you hear me!
The Bible says: "So I said in my heart, 'As it happens to the fool, it also happens to me." Ecclesiastes 2:15 (New king James version)
