Wording of this Handout:
When Jesus spoke about "heaven" he used the word by itself, meaning the place where the father lives, or He spoke of the "Kingdom of heaven" (or the "Kingdom of God"). Now a kingdom has to have 4 things, otherwise it is not a kingdom: Land, People, Laws and a King.
When we pray "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" we are really asking God to establish His heavenly rule on this earth. When this happens, we will have the Kingdom of heaven, and heaven will have come to our planet.
At the moment this planet is infested with Satan and his fallen angels, and most people in the world are not worshipping the true God. The planet too is 'running down' because of the punishment on Adam and Eve - ageing, sickness and death are normal at the moment. . . but one day these things will disappear.
When Jesus comes, He intends to set Himself up as the King of the whole earth. At that time heaven will be on earth, so we will not need to go to heaven because heaven will have come to us.
The Bible says: "And Jesus said to them, Verily I say to you, That you which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of IsraeI" Matthew 19:28 (King James version)
