Wording of this Handout:
Why doesn't God do something?!
Some people shake their fist at the sky and say "Why doesn't God do something about the suffering, and crime, and sickness, and all the horrible things going on around the world?!
First of all God HAS done something. He has suffered and died for the whole world. We have only to look (by faith) at Jesus on the cross and we can see that God has done everything He can to bring the world into His plan for peace and love.
And secondly, God has given to all people a free will. People choose to make the world the way it is. God cannot force people to be well-behaved, because that would violate their free will.
And thirdly, we must remember that we live in a fallen world. We live in a damaged creation, and we inherit much of the troubles we have from a world which is running down. Animals shouldn't eat meat, the weather should be beautiful, people shouldn't grow old and get sick and die, and many of the problems we have are simply a result of an imperfect world.
If the world turned to Jesus and did what He wanted, We would eliminate all crime, all insecurity and cruelty.... everyone would have food, and clothes, and a place to live, and natural disasters would be reduced to a minimum, so maybe we should be asking "Why don't WE do something about the suffering, and crime, and sickness, and all the horrible things going on around the world!?
If I have one more disaster I'll stop believing in God!
Jesus said "Unless you repent, you shall all perish." Luke 13:5 (Richard's paraphrase)
