My Amazing Trip

In November 1997, I went with my father for an amazing trip. We started out in the afternoon from Timaru, and went by train to Christchurch.

When we reached ChristChurch, our friends were at the station to pick us up. We stayed the night with them.

The next day we went to the Antarctic Center. One room was minus five degrees. Brrrrr! It had some strange rooms, with colored lights and wired sounds, and another room which had a block of ice and a snow cave and some some little sledges to slide down the snow on.

THe third day we went by train to Picton.

The Ferry went as fast as a man runs, leaving a white 'V' shape at the stern. I didn't see any dolphins. When we left the South Island, the sea was like small hills, and the Ferry went up and down, but Dad And I were not sea-sick at all. Some other people were though. they looked terrible!

We got to Wellington in the evening and went looking for a place to stay. We found a double room at Downtown Backpackers. It had two bunks, a window with a view of the railway Station, a bath and shower and a toilet.

On the second floor of the backpackers building was a restaurant, where Dad and I had great breakfasts and dinners.

We spent a whole day looking around Wellington. It was full of big modern buildings One of the banks had a huge star made of lights.

We visited the zoo, and got really close to the lions. I liked the Mercats and the Kangaroos. Most of the animals were asleep or resting. The liveliest animal was the otter. He dived into the water many times, and we watch him through some glass. When he was underwater, he left a steam of little bubbles.

Dad and I looked inside may shops, and also had a look at the Maritime Museum. Dad rang all the ship's bells as he went through.

On the day we left Wellington, we caught a tram to the airport. some of the big planes from overseas made a terrific rumble and roar as the landed and took off.

We caught a small plane, called a 'domestic' flight, al the way from Wellington to Timaru. It was like sitting inside a bus. Dad and I took turns looking down at New Zealand from the little window. It was awesome! We were above the cods. The paddocks looked like little bits of cloth on a patchwork quilt.

So that was my amazing trip. Dad made a scrapbook of it, and took some photos, and we kept lots of souvenirs too.

Now I am wondering where we will go for our next amazing trip!
