Wording of this Handout:
Lights in the darkness.
A dear, sweet young Christian girl once told me that, when she was at school, she had found herself swering. She was upset, and ashamed to admit it, but, after a little talk with her, she realized two important things.
Firstly, she found herself swearing because she was surrounded by kids her age who always spoke with bad words. After months of being with them, their bad language had worked its way into her heart.
Secondly, she understood that Jesus was always there, ready to forgive her the moment she admitted her sin, and then wash her heart clean again through reading of the Bible.
Christians are directed, in the Bible, to keep close to other Christians - this helps them to stay strong in the faith. And they are also assured that God loves t hem as his own children, and is always there to help when they slip of stumble in this sin-saturated world.
The Bible says "You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of GOd in a dark world full of people who are crooked and stubborn. Shine out among them like beacon lights."
(Philippians 2:15 The Living Bible paraphrase)
