Wording of this Handout:
Quite often, when I am talking to unsaved people, they tell me that "Christianity has caused the death of millions of people." By this they actually mean wars between different religions, such as Islamics and the Roman Catholic Crusaders.
The best way to deal with this misguided criticism is to talk about Jesus. He never told any of his followers to attack and kill unbelievers. He never told them to carry weapons and march against other religions. He never advocated violence as a means to winning the world.
Jesus taught forgiveness, tolerance, mercy, kindness, love, and care for all people. He told his followers to bless and love those who hated them. He was the one who cried out "Forgive them father, for they know not what they do!" form the cross. He set the great example of compassion, even healing the ear of one of his attackers as he was being led away.
The fact is, Christianity never caused a war - but religion has always caused them. If the Pope had been a Christian he would have called off the Crusades and sent preachers with Bibles instead of knights and swords and cannons!

God loves you!
The Bible says "Therefore be imitators of God as dear Children."
