Walking with a friend.

For me, one of the best ways I know to spend time with a friend is to go fro a walk with them. There is something harmonious about walking and talking which (for me anyway) beats sitting in a room and talking. The fresh air, the exercise and the changing scenery all help to make it a good experience. Do you know what I mean?

And I've also found that a really good way to spend time with Jesus is to go for a walk with him, preferably in a remote place, away form people. I pray a little as I walk and listen with my heart. look at the beautiful things around me and I think about things I have learned. And often things come to me, as if Jesus is teaching me things. I always come back from such walks invigorated and refreshed.

Not that I'm saying this is how everyone else should spend time with God. Some Christians prefer kneeling, others like to sit in a comfy chair and read the Bible. Some like to lie in the bath, others find time with God on mountains. The main things is that we take time out and give God a space in our lives.

And that means getting rid of the clatter and clutter of our lives. Get away from the phone and the TV. God somewhere quiet, and shut the doors.

I know from many years experience that it works.
