The rainbow.

These days the rainbow is used in many different ways. It is painted on the walls of play centers as a decoration, it is used by several organizations as a symbol of health, or happiness. It is a design which many artists like to use to make their work look pretty, and it used as a logo for environmentalists.

But what was the rainbow given for at the beginning?

God gave the world the rainbow as a sign that he would never again flood the planet, and destroy every living thing. How strange - that something so beautiful should be the symbol of so much death! It might have been better to place a large, black tombstone in the sky whenever it rained... but that was not the sign God want to use.

Science tells us that rainbows are caused by the splitting of sunlight, buy the millions of drops in falling rain, into the seven different colors from which sunlight is made. But before the great flood there was no rain, so the rainbow also reminds us of how different the world is now compared to how it was before the great flood.

The rainbow : a symbol of judgement, mercy, righteousness and love.

God is still keeping his promise!

The Bible says "I set my rainbow in the cloud..." Genesis 9:13 (New King James Version)
