Two natures
When we become Christians we discover what seems to two people inside one body! One of those people is the one we are used to, because he or she has been with us since we were born, but the other person, the new, Christian person, wants to do things the most familiar person is not interested in.
For example, which would you rather do: go to the beach on a sunny day and sunbathe, or sit quietly in your room and read the Bible? The first appeals to your flesh, the second to you spirit.
Was there a conflict in you mind? Did you think "Well, I know the Bible is obviously the best thing to choose, but I DO like the sun, and the beach, and the fresh air and maybe fish and chips..."
One person inside you wanted the old familiar pleasures, but the new Christian person wanted spiritual food. It is a war you are stuck with for the rest of you life, and neither side ever really wins until Jesus comes to give you a brand new body.
The Bible says "I say then, walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh."
(Galatians 5:16 New King James Version)
