Wording of this Handout:

The Mirror

Once there was a beautiful girl (like Tamlyn) who went for a walk on a rainy day to see her grandfather. But on the way the rain wet her gloves, and when she wiped her face the dye from the gloves made black marks all over her face.

When she reached her grandfather he looked at her and chuckled.

"I can see something about you that you can't see!" he said.

"What is it?" asked the girl.

"Go look in a mirror," said her grandfather.

So the girl went to the mirror and saw her face. Now she could see herself as her grandfather could see her.

In the Bible, the Law is like a mirror. When we look at the Law it shows us what we look like to God, and we see ourselves as He sees us. The Law reflects back at us our imperfect and sinful nature, but the Law cannot do anymore than this. Once we know we have "black marks" on us, we can then turn to the cross and see Jesus, who took all those marks away.

That's why Christians are such beautiful people.

The Bible says, "Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father." Galatians 1:4 (King James Version)
